Last night’s faceoff between Royal Challenger’s Bangalore and Delhi Capitals was an out-and-out thriller. After DC managed to post 164 runs on a double-paced Dubai pitch, the chase was always gonna be a tricky one for Royal Challenger’s Bangalore. Anrich Nortje made it even tougher, getting rid of both the RCB openers within the first 3 overs of the batting powerplay. AB de Villiers too struggled to get going before losing his wicket to Axar Patel, and Kohli’s men were left reeling at 3 for 55 at the halfway mark.

4th wicket partnership between Glenn Maxwell and wicket-keeper Srikar Bharat turned out to be a splendid one. The duo joined hands at the halfway mark and combined to stitch an unbeaten partnership of 111 runs, that too off just 63 deliveries.

But mind you, the game went right down the wire. With 15 needed off the last over, skipper Rishab trusted Avesh Khan with closing duties with Maxwell on the strike. The Aussie could score only 7 runs off the first 3 balls and with 8 needed off 3, KS Bharat came on strike. Avesh then bowled a slot-ball to Bharat, who missed his hoick completely. Delhi Capital’s pacer couldn’t believe it and started laughing after seeing Bharat miss a slot-ball.

Courtesy of a misfield by Ripal on the next ball, the equation boiled down to RCB needing 5 off the last ball. In came Avesh, steaming hot, trying to execute a yorker. But as it turned out, he ended up offering a middle-stump full-toss to Bharat, who didn’t miss out this time, striking it sky-high over long-off. The contest between Avesh and Bharat was internet-breaking, where RCB’s no.3 had the last laugh. Below is the video of the final over.

While KS Bharat was declared Man Of The Match for his 78 off 52, Avesh Khan learned a lesson… Never underestimate your opponent’s abilities. Never laugh until it’s dusted. It’s not over until it actually is.
