A legal complaint has reportedly been filed against the all-rounder after a video from the post-match celebrations went viral on social media. Pandya is seen celebrating with his girlfriend Mahieka Sharma while the Indian national flag is draped around his shoulders.
The moment with Mahieka Sharma appeared to be a personal and joyful one. Like many athletes after big victories, Pandya had wrapped the national flag around himself as a sign of pride.
However, some people on social media felt the flag was not handled properly, which reportedly led to the legal complaint.
In one video clip that circulated online, he can be seen celebrating with Mahieka Sharma on the stage area where the team was enjoying the victory.
Complaint filed by Pune lawyer after Hardik Pandya’s celebration video
The controversy grew bigger when a lawyer from Pune filed a formal complaint regarding the incident. According to reports, advocate Wajid Khan approached the Shivaji Nagar police station and demanded legal action.
The lawyer argued that the way the flag appeared in the video was disrespectful.
“You must have seen the T20 World Cup here. Hardik Pandya was dancing with his girlfriend in celebration of his victory. The national flag was tied to his back…According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag. However, Hardik Pandya was so lost in the celebration of his victory that he was lying with his girlfriend, wearing the national flag. I believe it is an insult to the national flag,” Khan told ANI.

“I have filed a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police station. When I went to file the complaint, they told me the incident occurred there, not here. So I told them that the national flag is a symbol of the entire nation, and we can file a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police. They have accepted my complaint and provided me with a copy. Let’s see what happens next. I have filed the complaint,” he added.
He further added that celebrations are understandable after such a big victory but certain symbols like the national flag should never be used casually.

The complaint claims that the act could fall under laws related to disrespecting the Indian national flag. Authorities will now examine whether the incident violates any legal provisions.
