In the latest development, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have named their second-string squad for the upcoming ODI series Bangladesh. New Zealand are currently in England for a limited-overs assignment (4 T20Is and 4 T20Is). New Zealand’s overseas assignment will come to a close on September 15. After that, the Black Caps will jet off to Bangladesh to play three ODIs and two Tests.

All three games of the ODI series will be staged at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The ODI opener is slated to begin on September 21, Thursday whereas the second and third ODI will be held on September 23 and September 26 respectively. After the conclusion of the ODI series, New Zealand will fly to India to feature in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Once the marquee event comes to a close, the New Zealand cricket team will fly back to Bangladesh to complete the remaining part of the tour. The first Test of the two-match Test series will kick off on November 28 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. The second and final Test will kick off on December 6 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

Lockie Ferguson to lead the second-string New Zealand side for Bangladesh ODIs

Meanwhile, Lockie Ferguson has been named the New Zealand skipper of the second-string side. It remains to be seen how the New Zealand pacer will lead the team from the vanguard. New Zealand’s selection committee decided to rest a certain group of senior cricketers such that they can get enough time to recharge their batteries for the highly-anticipated ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

New Zealand will lock horns with England in the tournament opener on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Currently, Tom Latham is leading the team in place of the injured Kane Williamson for an ongoing tour of England. After the conclusion of this tour, he will also warm the bench for the three-match ODI series against the Bangladesh cricket team.

Senior cricketers such as Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee will be missing the ODI leg against the Bangladesh cricket team. As far as the coaching staff is concerned, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead will be given the rest for Bangladesh ODIs as batting coach Luke Ronchi will take up the responsibility for three fixtures in Dhaka.
