MS Dhoni giving up captaincy ahead of IPL 2024 had left fans heartbroken. There are speculations of Dhoni hanging his boots after the season. However, his blistering knocks in the ongoing season are winning over the crowd, and fans are hopeful that with this form, the 42-year-old legendary cricketer can give one more season a shot. Meanwhile, in the LSG vs CSK match in Lucknow, it was another day when Dhoni showcased his finishing masterclass.

The keeper-batter arrived at the crease in the 19th over and proceeded to smash 28 runs in just 9 deliveries. Dhoni Review System also came into action during this 9-ball innings. On the second delivery that MS Dhoni faced, the ball was way outside the off stump, and Dhoni attempted a cut shot. However, there was no contact, and the ball ended up in KL Rahul’s gloves.

MS Dhoni anticipated it to be a wide, but Umpire Anil Kumar Chaudhary deemed it a legal delivery. Nevertheless, MS Dhoni swiftly opted for the DRS. The replay showed that the ball was going over MS Dhoni’s bat. Third umpire Bruce Oxenford concluded that it was a wide delivery. He instructed the on-field umpire to reverse his decision accordingly. Here’s the video.

MS Dhoni’s review was a success, but netizens and even commentator Ravi Shastri showed shock at the decision. With a surprised expression, Shastri exclaimed, “Wide signal.” Some users on X (social media platform) tweeted that the wide was given due to MS Dhoni’s influence. However, the Lucknow Super Giants were unfazed by the one extra run. CSK had set a 177-run target for the hosts, and Lucknow chased it down in 19 overs, all thanks to KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock’s impressive 134-run opening partnership.
