A total of 8 teams have been tussling for their place in the Super 12 stage of T20 World Cup 2021. The Qualifiers started on 17th October and since then the teams have been giving their best to move on to the main stage of the World Cup. In an all-important match between Namibia and Ireland, luck favours Namibia captain as he has a lucky escape after the ball hits the stumps.
The eight teams that locked horns to get into the Super 12 are; Bangladesh, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Netherlands, Ireland, and Oman. After almost a week-long battle, 4 teams have sealed the Super 12 spot which includes Bangladesh, Scotland, Sri Lanka and Namibia.
Namibia captain survives as bails refuse to dislodge
The match between Namibia and Ireland was a decider and Namibia played brilliantly to register a historic win. With their victory, they stormed into the Super 12 stage. There was an interesting incident in the match where the Namibia captain finds himself lucky. The skipper Gerhard Erasmus was lucky as the bails didn’t dislodge at a crucial point in the match.

The unusual incident took place in the 15th over of Namibia’s inning when Craig Young was bowling to a well-set Erasmus. Young bowled a fullish delivery which stayed low and brushed the off-stump. However, to everyone’s surprise, the bails didn’t come off and the batter survived. The ball had surely deflected to the keeper but the bails stayed intact.

With the help of a half-century by skipper Erasmus and a quickfire 28 by David Wiese, Namibia registered a historic win and qualified for the Super 12 phase of the T20 World Cup 2021. The Super 12 phase of the T20 World Cup is starting from 23rd October. Two games will be played on the opening day which will be followed by the monumental clash between India and Pakistan on 24th October.
