BCCI has decided to bring the 10-team IPL format for the first time since 2011. The 2022 edition of the league will see the addition of two new IPL teams. The last time when an Indian Premier League was played with more than 8 teams was in 2013. BCCI had terminated Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2012 over the financial differences with the board while Pune Warriors India had withdrawn for the same reason ahead of IPL 2014.

Meanwhile, the IPL Governing Council invites bids to acquire the rights to own and operate two new IPL teams. Adani Group and RPSG Group who formerly owned Rising Pune Supergiants are among the top bidders. As the board confirms the news, fans are suggesting names and speculating which two teams can be added in IPL 2022. Amid this, news channel CNBC TV 18’s Twitter handle suggests hilarious names that has left netizens in splits.

CNBC TV18 suggests hilarious names for the two new IPL Teams

While responding to ANI’s tweet about a tender released by the BCCI for owning and operating two new IPL teams, CNBC suggested two names for the new IPL teams. The sarcastic tweet reads, “Patna Popats, Lucknow ke lau…. wait a second”. However, later, the handle deleted the tweet, maybe because the operators of the handle found it inappropriate as it was coming from a news channel’s account. But the netizens had enough time to screenshot it and spread it all over the internet. Below are the reactions of fans to the tweet.

Format of 10-Team IPL in 2022

A BCCI official-bearer tells that the board is planning to reintroduce the group format like the 2011 season, in which each team plays a total of 14 matches. “We cannot have home and away format and 94 games, there is no window. Likely reintroduce 2011 formats in next IPL 2022 season.” said the BCCI official.

This format consists of a total of 74 matches (70 group matches, 3 playoffs matches, and the Final). IPL 2022 Mega Auction is expected to take place in December this year. So BCCI may introduce the new teams once IPL 2021 concludes in October.
