Rohit Sharma’s witty remarks often get picked up by the stump mic. During the IND vs BAN T20 World Cup 2024 match, another one of the Indian skipper’s quips was caught on the mic. This particular incident occurred in the 14th over, right after Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Shakib Al Hasan. Mahmudullah had just arrived at the crease, and Kuldeep tricked him with a well-bowled googly. The ball just missed the top of the off stump.

However, Kuldeep immediately asked Rohit for a field change, possibly wanting to place a fielder at square as there was no protection there. Rohit Sharma, however, was unimpressed with Kuldeep’s request. Rohit indicated to Kuldeep to let Mahmudullah play square and not worry if a boundary comes. Since the batter was not yet set, playing with the cross bat could create opportunities.

“Kya hai, khelne de na yaar, abhi abhi aya hai aada maarne de na, ek out hua hai aada maarne de (What’s the matter? Let him play, man. He just came in, let him play with the cross bat. A wicket has just fallen, let him play with the cross bat)” Rohit caught on stump mic. Netizens were left in splits with Rohit Sharma’s comment while some praised the skipper for giving freedom to the bowlers and encouraging them to attack rather than taking a defensive approach to save runs.

India continued with the same fielding setup, and Kuldeep conceded just 2 runs in the remaining over. The chinaman was brilliant with the ball, scalping 3 wickets in his 4-over spell and conceding just 19 runs. Kuldeep didn’t get a chance in the USA leg, but on the spin-friendly Caribbean pitches, he played 2 matches and took 5 wickets.

Talking about the IND vs BAN match, the Tigers needed 89 runs in the last 5 overs. It was a daunting task for the Bangladesh batters and needed to hit big shots. Rihad Hossain showed some intent, scoring 24 runs off 10 balls. However, no other batter, including Mahmudullah, could hit a maximum against the formidable Indian bowling lineup.
