Major League Cricket is all set to begin its inaugural season on 13 July. The inaugural season will begin with a total of 6 teams out of which 4 teams are owned by the owners of IPL franchises Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals. Organizers released a full schedule of the tournament on Monday, June 12 on their official Twitter account.
Teams that are going to take part in the Inaugural season are Texas Super Kings, Seattle Orcas, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Washington Freedom which have been sanctioned by ICC and USA Cricket respectively. Major League Cricket came into the limelight back when the 4 IPL franchise owners won the bid to own a team in MLC 2023.
Taxes Super Kings are owned by the owners of current IPL Champions Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians won the bid for New York and it will be called MI New York, The 2-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders are now also the owners of team Los Angles which will be called Los Angles Knight Riders, Whereas the owners of Delhi Capitals have won the bid for Seattle Orcas, and the remaining 2 franchises San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom also have Indian-origin owners. San Francisco Unicorns have been owned by Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan while Washington Freedom is owned by Sanjay Govil.
4 IPL franchises that have bought stakes in MLC are also part of more than 1 Overseas Franchise League, including SA20, ILT20, and in Caribbean Premier League.
