It is no secret that Pakistani players have not been part of the Indian Premier League since the inaugural edition in 2008 owing to the strained relations between India and Pakistan. The political tensions flared up between the two countries so much that they haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012. Case in point, former Pakistani paceman Mohammad Amir will be eligible to play in IPL 2025, if everything falls in place.
Mohammad Amir is trying his best to acquire his British passport so that there is a window of opportunity for him to play in IPL 2025. Amir who is currently settled in the United Kingdom since 2020 stated that he will think about featuring in the Indian Premier League in 2024. Earlier, in an interview, the left-arm paceman confirmed that he will not be representing the England cricket team since he has played for the Pakistan cricket team.

If reports doing the rounds are to be believed, Mohammad Amir is expected to play IPL 2025. One of the sports journalists took to X handle and dropped a hint about the possibility of Amir taking part in IPL 2025 since he will be getting a British passport. “Mohd. Amir is likely to play IPL 2025 since he will be receiving a British passport in 2024. Which teams may buy him? I think RR or CSK. Hard to think him going unsold,” the tweet read.

Mohammad Amir shocked the entire cricket fraternity after he retired from international cricket in 2020 at the age of 28. The 31-year-old represented the Pakistan cricket team across all three formats of the game, playing 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 50 Tests. He took 119 wickets in Tests including 4 five-wicket hauls. On the other hand, he took 81 wickets in the 50-over format whereas he took 59 wickets in the truncated version of the game.

For the record, as many as 13 Pakistani players spiced it up in the first edition of the IPL. They are none other than Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Salman Butt, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Asif, Sohail Tanvir, Kamran Akmal, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi and Azhar Mahmood.
