Arjun Tendulkar has been part of the Mumbai Indians set up for the two years in a row now as the pace bowler was with the team in 2021 and was bought by MI for the 2022 edition for INR 30 lakh. Considering the fact that Mumbai Indians were out of the playoffs race pretty early, many speculated that Arjun will make his debut for the franchise, but it was not so. Now, MI Bowling coach Shane Bond reveals why the bowler needs to wait for an IPL debut.
MI Bowling Coach Shane Bond talks about Arjun Tendulkar’s debut
Mumbai Indians had their worst season of the Indian Premier League as they finished last on the points table with a poor run. After they were ousted from the league, they gave their bench strength a chance to showcase their skills. Unfortunately for him, Arjun Tendulkar was not someone MI tried in the latter half of the tournament. MI Bowling Coach Shane Bond has cleared the air on when Arjun will be making his debut for the team.
MI Bowling Coach Shane Bond has opened up on Arjun’s chances of making a debut for the most successful franchise in the history of the IPL. While Arjun has looked pretty good in the nets, Bond opines that the pace bowler needs to work on his batting and fielding and only then can he earn his spot in the playing XI. Bond feels that the cricketer needs to do a lot of work as far as his batting and fielding are concerned.
Talking to Sportskeeda, MI Bowling Coach Shane Bond said. “He’s got some work to do. When you are playing for a team like Mumbai, it’s like one thing to make the squad, but to make the playing eleven is another. He’s still got a lot of development to do. There is a great deal of work to be done. It is one thing to try everyone out to play, but in the end, when you play at this level, there’s that fine line between giving everyone a game but also you have to earn your spot.”
While there were a lot of speculations regarding Arjun’s debut in the 2022 season, MI Bowling Coach Shane Bond has made it clear that the cricketer has to earn his spot and work on his skills. It will be interesting to see whether Arjun Tendulkar passes the test next year and become a part of the Mumbai Indians Playing XI. Until then, the cricketer needs to keep working hard on his skills.
