There has been a lot of talk going on about the 1000th game of the biggest T20 league in the world. The match number 42 of this season between MI and RR has been celebrated as the milestone game on Sunday. This year Indian Premier League has completed 15 years and with that it has also hit the historic match number 1000. The five-time champions Mumbai Indians and the first-ever champions of the tournament Rajasthan Royals played the ceremonial game.

Officially, on Sunday night 1000th IPL game was played between RR and MI at the Wankhede Stadium. The stadium was decorated with the banners of special game. The Mumbai crowd was seen in huge numbers for the marquee game.

There has been a lot of confusion about the landmark 1000th game of IPL. The game between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians is officially the 1000th game of the IPL including the 7 abandoned games.

However, the game on 6th May between MI and CSK is actually the 1000th game if we exclude the 7 abandoned games in which not a single ball was bowled. There have been 7 matches that were completely washed out by the rain. Considering those matches the MI-CSK match on Saturday will be adjudged as the landmark match.

Mumbai Indians sealed a thumping victory in the marquee 1000th IPL game

The most successful team in the league didn’t disappoint their fans in the historic game against Rajasthan Royals.

The inaugural season champions Rajasthan Royals posted a great total of 212 runs on the board thanks to the Mumbai born 21-year-old opener. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a splendid 124 runs in front of his home crowd. His innings took RR to a mammoth total of 213 runs.

The 213 runs target was never chased at this venue before. MI started off steadily in the high soring run chase. The birthday boy Rohit Sharma departed on just 3 runs. Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green build a partnership to rescue MI.

After their dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 55 runs which ended by a stunner of Sandeep Sharma running backwards.

Even after being on a strong position of 152/4 in the 16th over MI had mountain to climb as the target set by RR was huge. However, Tim David and Tilak Verma steadied the ship of MI.

In the last over MI needed 18 runs off Jason Holder’s over. The Australian six-hitting machine Tim David Finished off the game with 3 balls to left.
