Seattle Orcas defeated San Francisco Unicorns by 35 runs in the MLC 2023 game on July 16 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. In the Seattle Orcas vs San Francisco Unicorns clash, Finn Allen’s bat got stuck on the ground which led to his run-out in a terrible fashion.
Seattle Orcas had put on a competitive total of 177-4 in their 20 overs. The opening pair of Finn Allen and Matthew Wade provided San Francisco Unicorns the kind of start they needed.
Finn Allen’s terrible run-out in MLC 2023
The kiwi batter went all guns blazing right from the word go and scored 28 runs off just 9 deliveries including 4 boundaries and a couple of maximums. However, he couldn’t further continue his innings as he made a sloppy mistake.
The San Fransisco Unicorns opener dabbed a slower one from Cameron Gannon towards the square leg region and called for a single. As the ball was far from Shehan Jayasuriya, Allen kept casually moving towards the non-striker’s end without showing any sense of urgency.
However, Jayasuriya was quite alert and turned quickly to throw the ball and aimed directly at the stumps. Finn Allen wasn’t too far away from the crease and tried to stretch his bat forward but it got stuck on the turf and slipped out of his hands.
As the bails were dislodged, Allen was found a couple of yards short of his crease and was adjudged run-out. The opening batter was certainly disappointed after losing his wicket as he took the long walk back to the pavilion.
Major League Cricket posted the video of the bizarre run-out on their official Twitter handle and wrote,”WHAT JUST HAPPENED Was this the only way Finn Allen could get out tonight? HEADS-UP play and a BEAUTIFUL throw from Shehan Jayasuriya!”
Got run out today. Couldn't do much. Fielder just got to the ball somehow and scored a direct hit. Was unlucky.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Unicorns’ innings lost their momentum in the middle overs. Skipper Aaron Finch, Marcus Stoinis and Corey Anderson got starts but couldn’t score big. All-rounder Shadab Khan then played a crucial knock of 37 runs off just 23 deliveries.
Despite Shadab Khan’s brilliant effort, the San Francisco Unicorns couldn’t chase down the target as they fell short by 35 runs in the MLC 2023 game against Seattle Orcas. Cameron Gannon took 4 vital wickets for his side while Andrew Tye and Imad Wasim scalped a couple of wickets each leading their team to a crucial victory.
