MS Dhoni explains the reason behind CSK’s flop show in IPL 2020

2020 has been a forgettable year for MS Dhoni and his team Chennai Super Kings. The fans are shocked at the abysmal performance of the Chennai based franchise, and they have believed that it’s 2020 indeed where anything could happen. No one had actually expected CSK to be at the bottom of the points table after playing 11 matches.

CSK’s match against Mumbai Indians on Friday was a reflection of MS Dhoni and his team’s journey in this year’s IPL. CSK lost the match by 10 wickets, which is their biggest defeat in the history of the tournament in terms of wickets. The loss meant that CSK is out of the race of playoffs. This will be the first time when MS Dhoni and his team will not be featuring in the playoffs.

The former India captain said luck also did not favour CSK this time. “It was more about bowling. Rayudu got injured, the other batsmen were maybe not there 200% and in cricket when you’re going through a tough phase, you need a bit of luck. The games we wanted to bat first, we haven’t won the toss, and there’s no dew and all of a sudden when we bat first there’s dew,” he said.

It’s important to have a clear picture of next year: MS Dhoni

He said cumulatively there have been batting failures but termed it a part and parcel of the game. “You can’t always think the result will go your way. Even when you’re hurting, you try to smile and take it on the chin. I feel the boys have done that, they’ve tried to perform. I think it’s important for us to have a clear picture of next year. There are lots of ifs and buts – auction, where the venues will be.”

Chennai Super Kings have been touted as the ‘Ageing Team’ on a number of occasions and it was clearly visible in their performance this year. The experienced player couldn’t perform to their potential and the youngsters couldn’t cope up with the pressure either. All this led to CSK’s worst season which has left the CSK fans pretty shocked and disheartened.

MS Dhoni and the Chennai Think Tank will definitely have to make a lot of changes in their team combination and work on different strategies. This season is over for them, but they need to be prepared for the next season. The only silver lining for MS Dhoni and his team are the performances of Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja who have contributed for the team.

CSK have 3 matches left which they will be playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab respectively.
