The fans were left surprised when the CSK skipper MS Dhoni handed over his captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja just before the first clash of Indian Premier League 2022. The CSK allrounder donned a new cap as Jadeja was appointed the new captain. However, only after 8 matches, Jadeja handed the captaincy back to the former captain and MS Dhoni explains why Jadeja was not as successful during his tenure as the captain of Chennai Super Kings.
MS Dhoni explains why Jadeja failed as captain
Chennai Super Kings have had a rather poor season so far and had won only 2 matches out of 8 contests, in which Jadeja led the team. Things changed in the 9th match for them as Dhoni came back as the captain. All the players looked effective and returned with great performances for their team. As Jadeja relinquished his captaincy, MS Dhoni explains what went wrong for the allrounder as the captain.
In the post-match show, MS Dhoni explains how the burden of captaincy affected Jadeja’s performance with the bat and ball. “Once you become captain, it means a lot of demands come in and can affect the player’s performance and occupy their mind which I think was the case with him. I think captaincy burdened his prep and performances, it meant he could not go with the bat and ball with the same intensity.”
After Dhoni’s return as the captain, CSK got back to winning ways as they defeated the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring match. The opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway notched-up a 182-run partnership which set the foundation for CSK to get a total in excess of 200. Though the Sunrisers Hyderabad tried hard, they could not achieve the target and lost the match by 13 runs.

With this victory, CSK has now got 6 points in 9 matches, while Rajasthan Royals have 12 points in as many matches and are on course to enter the playoffs. CSK may have an outside chance to enter the playoffs, but for that they need to win all their remaining matches with a good margin.
