The MI coach shared his perspective on how and when Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun Tendulkar may make his debut for the franchise.

Mumbai Indians have had one of their worst IPL seasons as they lost 8 consecutive matches in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. While Mumbai Indians introduced quite a few new names in the squad, it was speculated that Arjun Tendulkar will also make a debut for Mumbai Indians this year. Interestingly, the fast bowler hasn’t got a chance yet and now MI coach Mahela Jayawardene talks about Arjun’s chances of IPL debut.

Arjun Tendulkar listed himself for the 2022 Mega Auction and he was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 30 lakhs. Since Mumbai Indians have now been eliminated from the race to playoffs, the grapevine is abuzz that Arjun may get a chance and finally make his debut for the franchise. Mahela Jayawardene, who has been a part of MI coaching staff for a long time shared his views on Arjun’s debut.

Mahela Jayawardene talks about Arjun’s debut

“Well, I think everyone in the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches, and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups. Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win, and it is about stringing wins together and get the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination we put out,” said Mahela Jayawardene, as quoted by India Today.

Mumbai Indians is the most successful team in the history of IPL as far as winning the trophy is concerned. However, the last two seasons haven’t been as good for the five-time champions as they would have wanted. They ended up on the fifth position in the 2021 edition and 2022 edition has turned out to be even worse as they are most likely to finish on the last position on the points table.

Mumbai Indians became the first team to get knocked out from the race to playoffs in this year’s IPL. They will play rest of the matches for their honour and would like to get their confidence back by winning the last few matches. They registered their first win against Rajasthan Royals in the 44th match of the season. The franchise will definitely look to make amends in the next season and come back stronger. The fans will hope to watch an improved MI team in the 2023 edition of the league.
