On August 6, India’s Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra secured his spot in the Men’s Javelin Throw final at the 2024 Olympics. With his first attempt in the qualifying round, Neeraj launched a massive 89.34-meter throw, easily surpassing the 84-meter qualification mark. His throw was the best among all athletes, solidifying his position as a top contender for the gold medal.

Nine athletes secured direct qualification by surpassing the 84-meter mark, while the remaining three entered the 12-man final based on their positions within the top 12. Unfortunately, Kishore Kumar Jena, India’s second athlete in the event, couldn’t qualify for the final, with his best throw at 80.73 meters.

When will the Javelin Throw Final take place in Olympics 2024?

The final of the Javelin Throw event is scheduled for August 8. In Paris, the event will kick off at 8:25 PM, which translates to 11:55 PM Indian time.

While Neeraj Chopra is considered the favorite to defend his medal, 4-5 athletes are expected to challenge him. Anderson Peters of Grenada achieved an 88.63-meter throw in the qualification round, which was the second-best after Neeraj. Peters is a two-time World Champion and has a personal best of 93.07 meters. However, he is still eyeing his first Olympic medal.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem is also a top contender to bag a medal. He launched an 86.59-meter throw in the qualifying round, keeping his nation’s hopes of winning a medal alive. Other top names in the mix are Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic (2020 Silver medalist) and Julian Weber of Germany. While 2012 Gold medalist Keshorn Walcott and 2016 Silver medalist Julius Yego are not in their prime, they still have the ability to bag a medal.
