New Zealand have announced their 15-member squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to begin on October 5 in India. The New Zealand World Cup 2023 Squad includes the likes of Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham while Kane Williamson has been named as the captain of the team.

Kane Williamson named as New Zealand skipper for ODI World Cup 2023 despite knee injury

Williamson last played for the Black Caps in March and then suffered a serious knee injury during the IPL 2023 while playing for the Gujarat Titans. He is still recovering from the ruptured ACL he suffered and is not yet known when he will be 100% fit to play.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead discussed about the 15-member squad as he looked pretty excited for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. “From Kane and Tim heading to their fourth tournament to the guys selected for the first time it’s always a very exciting time,” Gary Stead said.

“As with any squad named for an ICC tournament, there have been some tough calls and there will be some disappointed players. The key for us was finding the right balance for the squad and making sure we had our bases covered for what is going to be a very competitive tournament,” the New Zealand head coach further added.

Along with Kane Williamson, pacer Tim Southee too will feature in the marquee tournament for the fourth time. While Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Tom Latham will appear in the ODI World Cup for the third time.

Jimmy Neesham and Trent Boult have been included in the squad despite not being on the list of centrally contracted players. Keeper-batter Tom Latham has been named as the vice-captain of the New Zealand World Cup 2023 squad.

Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips will play in the ODI World Cup for the first time. Opening batter Finn Allen and speedster Adam Milne have missed out.

Black Caps will play their first game in the mega event against England on October 5. Ahead of their first game, they will contest against Pakistan in a warm-up match at Hyderabad on September 29.
