We have seen one of the most controversial and unusual runouts in cricket but this one is beyond imagination. Even after having nothing inside the crease, the batsman survived a runout. TNPL 2023  witnesses a bizarre incident in which the batsman was ultimately run out but no one appealed.

According to the new rules of ICC a batsman is given not out if he/she is having something inside the crease for once before the bails are dislodged. The addition of the new rule has resulted in fewer runouts due to the bat being elevated while diving.

However, in the TNPL 2023, we saw a completely different thing in which the batsman kept not out even after having nothing inside the crease for once.

During the game between Lyca Kovai Kings and Salem Spartans S Sujay gets an extra lifeline due to lack of presence of mind in the fielding team. While Sujay and Sai Sudharshan were batting the on-strike batter, S Sujay tapped one ball on the offside and asked Sudarshan to run.

Sujay who was running into the danger end reached the crease on time but didn’t have anything grounded. The throw was directly aimed at stumps and as Sujay was not able to see from where the ball is coming he jumped with a subconscious mind.

However, even after being completely aerial during the time ball struck the stumps nobody from the fielding side appealed. Moreover, the on-field umpire also didn’t refer to the third umpire for the review.

In addition, the two batters played a smart trick and started looking for the second trick to divert their mind from the runout.

S Sujay smashed 44 off 32 after a lucky lifeline

The brain fade moment cost Salem very badly as S Sujay went on to score 34 runs from there on. The Lyca Kovai posted a mammoth total of 199 runs in front of Salem Spartans thanks to Ram Arvindh’s 22-ball unbeaten fifty.

In reply, Salem Spartans were bundled out on just 120 runs failing to play their full 20 overs of the innings. K Gowtham took 3 wickets conceding only 20 runs in his 3 overs whereas Shahrukh Khan also took 2 wickets.

With the thumping victory against Salem Spartans, Lyca Kovai is now sitting at the top of the table with 10 points. They are looking by far the most balanced team among all 8 teams in the tournament and they have a fair chance of lifting the trophy.
