On Sunday, IPL 2025 witnessed its first El Clásico of the season as two of the league’s biggest teams, CSK and MI, clashed at Chepauk. Making his debut for CSK, 20-year-old Noor Ahmad picked up four wickets in the game. The Afghanistan leg-spinner dismissed Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Robin Minz, and Naman Dhir and ended his four-over spell without conceding a single boundary.
Noor Ahmad bowled the best spell by a CSK spinner in El Clásico history
With figures of 4 overs, 4 wickets, and conceding just 18 runs, Noor Ahmad set a new IPL El Clásico record. The 20-year-old spinner now holds the best bowling figures by any CSK spinner against Mumbai Indians in IPL history.
In fact, Noor Ahmad is the first CSK spinner to take more than three wickets against Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Before him, the best spin-bowling figures for CSK against MI belonged to Ravindra Jadeja, who took 3/20 in the 2023 season.
Overall, the best bowling figures for CSK against Mumbai Indians belong to Mohit Sharma, who registered 4/14 in the 2014 season. As for IPL El Clásico history, Harbhajan Singh’s 5/18 in 2011 remains the best-ever bowling performance in CSK vs MI clashes.
Noor Ahmad has made an instant mark for CSK in his debut match, delivering his best-ever IPL figures of 4/18. Before joining CSK, he spent two seasons (2023 and 2024) with Gujarat Titans, where he played 23 matches and picked up 24 wickets.
