Former Australian pacer Brett Lee was recently asked on Jio Cinema about whom he considers the GOAT of TATA IPL. While cricket fans expected him to name someone like MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli, Lee surprised everyone by naming leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as the GOAT of IPL.
Rajasthan Royals’ leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the most underrated cricketers of modern day cricket. He performed exceedingly well for his former IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore and has done the same for Rajasthan Royals for the last two seasons.
Brett Lee names Yuzvendra Chahal as the GOAT of IPL
In a ‘Q20s’ section of Jio Cinema, the official digital broadcaster of the IPL 2023, Brett Lee was asked to name the GOAT of the IPL. The legendary pacer then replied, “Yuzvendra Chahal is the GOAT of IPL”.
‘Yuzi Chahal is the Most Underrated player of All Time in IPL’ – The former Aussie pacer added.
Yuzvendra Chahal has played 145 IPL games and has grabbed 187 wickets. He has recently overtaken CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as the leading wicket taker in the history of IPL. His bowling average of 21.27 is incredible as is the fifth best in the cash-rich league.
Yuzvendra Chahal has an economy rate of 7.63 despite being part of the RCB side for 6 years and bowling mostly in the batting friendly wicket at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Chahal has also shown great consistency as he has taken at least 18 wickets in every IPL edition since the year 2019.
IPL 2022 was his best campaign so far in which he took 27 wickets which is the most by a spinner in a single IPL season. He took 21 wickets for the RR side in IPL 2023 despite their inconsistent performance throughout the season.
Yuzvendra Chahal has always remained underrated and rarely gets credit for his exceptional performances. He has got a knack of taking the most crucial wickets which certainly makes him GOAT of IPL.
While most of the cricket experts usually name batters like Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina or MS Dhoni as their pick in reply to GOAT of IPL question, Brett Lee certainly surprised cricket fans by picking an underrated leg spinner.
Despite his consistent performance, Chahal wasn’t retained by the RCB franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 for whom he delivered great results since IPL 2014. He was then picked by Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 mega auction for a low price of INR 6.5 crore.
