The ICC ODI World Cup is set to begin on October 5 in India and the former cricketers have started giving their predictions for the marquee tournament. Former South African batter AB de Villiers too has predicted the batter who he thinks will become the Highest Run-Scorer in CWC 2023.
Most of the fans and cricket pundits believe Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are strong contenders to score the most number of runs. However, De Villiers has ignored both these star batters and has chosen a young batter who he believes has got a very straightforward technique.
Shubman Gill can put a lot of pressure on the bowlers: AB de Villiers
The former South African batter discussed about the upcoming World Cup in his latest YouTube video and he looked pretty impressed with Gill’s technique and shot-making ability.
“Shubman Gill is much more traditional, very straight forward technique. He doesn’t try a lot of different things. He does have a lot of strength where he can change the gears and put a lot of pressure on the bowlers,” De Villiers said in his YouTube video.
“In the IPL we saw that front arm pull off relatively full length which wasn’t even short. He has got this incredible ability to picking up the length very quickly. You generally see that with some of the best players in the world and Shubman is very quickly becoming one of them,” he further added.

“He is still young, which is incredible because he looks like an experienced campaigner allready. We are going to hear a lot about him in the future and in this world cup as I think he is going to be the top run scorer in World Cup 2023,” the former batter pointed about Gill.
It’s worth noting that Shubman Gill has been in exceptional form for the last one year. The young opener is currently the highest run-getter in 2023 and has scored 1,764 runs across formats.
He was the highest run-scorer in the IPL 2023 as well and had 890 runs against his name in 17 innings. He purple patch continued in the ongoing ODI series against Australia where he scored a brilliant half-century in the first ODI in Mohali and a ton in the second ODI in Indore.
Gill has just played 35 ODIs till now in his career but still would play a crucial role in Team India’s campaign in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue will expect him to provide a solid start to their innings consistently.
