Just after a day of India’s Test series loss against South Africa came a Tweet which shocked the cricket fans worldwide. Virat Kohli in a Tweet announced that he is stepping down from Test captaincy with immediate effect. This came as a real shocker for the Indian cricket fraternity and the fans alike. The Indian cricket management will now have to look for a new captain and former Indian player Yuvraj Singh backs Rishabh Pant for the position.

Kohli had a sensational captaincy stint for a long period of 7 years. The team reached new highs and became a team to beat, not only in India but overseas as well. The team registered a series win in Australia and then dominated England on their soil under Kohli’s leadership. After Kohli stepped down from the captaincy, a question looms large over the Indian management as to who will fill in the big boots of Kohli.

Yuvraj Singh backs Rishabh Pant to lead in Tests

The former Indian southpaw Yuvraj Singh has come up with an ‘out of the box’ pick for India’s new Test captain. While Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the options the fans might be thinking about, Yuvraj backs Rishabh Pant for the captaincy. The veteran cricketer feels that Pant, as a wicketkeeper can read the game nicely and is prepared to take on the role.

Yuvraj Singh’s comment came as he reacted to Sunil Gavaskar’s opinion of giving Pant the captaincy. Pant has captained the Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League and prior to that he has captained the Delhi side in domestic cricket as well. The explosive batsman was retained by the franchise as the captain after his brilliant performance. Only time will tell who will be the new Test captain for the Indian team.
