While there was a lot of chatter regarding the venue of the upcoming Asia Cup, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has come up with a big update on the same. Earlier, the tournament was going to take place in Sri Lanka, but considering the ongoing financial crisis and extreme conditions in the country, the board has stepped down as the host. Now Sourav Ganguly gives a big update on Asia Cup Venue.
Asia Cup venue shifted to UAE
After the condition in Sri Lanka worsened, Bangladesh was in contention to host the event and was even selected by ACC as the stand-by venue. However, according to the latest development, the Asia Cup venue has been shifted to UAE and the tournament will now take place in the Arab country from August 27 as confirmed by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.
An Apex Council meeting took place in Mumbai and it was decided that looking at the weather in all the potential host countries, UAE will be the best as the Asia Cup venue because it is the only place where there will be no rain. The same was conveyed to the media by Sourav Ganguly after the meeting as he confirmed that Asia Cup is going to begin on August 27 in UAE.
Apart from the Asia Cup venue, there were a lot of other decisions taken as well during the meeting which involved the domestic cricket schedule. Ganguly assured that a full domestic season will be implemented in the year 2022-23. After IPL was taken abroad, Asia Cup is also being taken outside Asia and it will be interesting to see the competition between all the Asian teams for the coveted trophy.
