Cricket is a game of uncertainties and one such uncertain incident happened in the second test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Extreme high winds forced the camera crew to come down from the camera tower after which there was single-end coverage of the Wellington test.
Extreme high winds lead to single-end coverage in second New Zealand vs Sri Lanka test
The second test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka faced technical interruptions due to extremely fast winds in Wellington on Day 5. The intensity of these winds was so high that it affected the television coverage of the game.
The camera crew that was handling the coverage from the Adelaide road end of the Basin reserve had to come down from the camera tower. This eventually led to the interruption of coverage from this end while the game was being covered from the other end.
New Zealand cricket took to Twitter and informed about the incident as they wrote, “For those watching at home, the @sparknzsport camera crew has had to come down from the camera tower at the Adelaide Road end of the Basin Reserve due to extremely high winds in Wellington. #NZvSL.”

They shared the video of the incident as well where the cameramen could be seen packing their stuff and coming down from the camera tower. The broadcaster also mentioned on their channel, ” Single End Coverage due to High Winds.”

Interestingly, the winds were so extreme that they started affecting the game as well. New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell bowled an off-spin delivery around the fifth stump channel but the winds cause it to turn other way. The delivery bowled by Bracewell eventually landed past the wide line and kept on going away from the batter with winds.
Meanwhile, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by innings and 58 runs after they posted a mammoth total of 580-4 in the first innings. Both Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls scored double tons for their side scoring 215 and 200* respectively.
Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 168 in the first innings. New Zealand enforced the follow-on after which Sri Lankan batters applied themselves well in the second innings. However, they couldn’t go past the New Zealand score and were bowled out for 358 runs. New Zealand won the series by 2-0 while Kane Williamson was adjudged as the Player of the Series.
