On This Day in 2001, Sachin Tendulkar Was Stumped For The First Time

On this day in 2001 legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar was stumped for the first and last time in the history of Test cricket. The most exciting thing about that stump-out was the reason behind that. Actually, he got out for the first time as stump-out because of the non-strike batsman Virender Sehwag.

However, it is very hard to believe that the reason behind the batsman’s wicket is not only bowler or fielder but also the non-strike batsman. Yes! it is true, you might be thinking how can be it possible. Here we are sharing news of the incident of that time.

On This Day in 2001, Sachin Tendulkar Was Stumped For The First Time

It all happened when the duo Master Tendulkar and Sehwag used to make brilliant partnership for India. Both were one of the best pairs in the world but in 2001 Virender Sehwag hilariously involved in first-ever stump-out of Sachin Tendulkar in Test Cricket. Shewag himself has described this full incident in a recent interview to Aaj Tak.

Actually, it was small little advice from Virender Sehwag to his partner Sachin which helped England team to dismiss little master. If Sehwag has not given him advice so today Sachin might have had the record of never being stumped in his entire Test career.

Sachin Tendulkar was batting on the score of 90 in the third test match of the series. Meanwhile, he was struggling with the spin and unbale to score freely. So, Virender Sehwag, who was at the other end, realised that Sachin had to play the fearless game. As there was not turn, Sehwag asked Sachin to step out of his crease and hit those balls. The Indian opener vividly remembers that Sachin stepped out for the 1 ball that actually turned. Ashley Giles was lucky enough to be the only bowler to get Sachin stumped in Test cricket.

“I was stepping out and easily hitting my shots. He was mostly padding. I said there is no spin, you can charge and play. It took me 2-3 overs to convince him. The only ball that turned was the one on which he stepped out of the crease and was stumped. I did not go back to the dressing room that day at the tea break. I sat in umpires’ room. Later was I called. Tendulkar said only once in my career I have got out stumped in Test cricket and that’s because of you ” Sehwag said to Aaj Tak.
