Pakistan has faced a lot of difficulty for making a return of cricket at home. First, 10 Sri Lankan players refused to tour Pakistan due to security issues. Then, the rain became an obstacle between their hopes. First ODI of Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series completely washed by rain. Also, the weather report was not good on the day of the 2nd ODI. So, PCB decided to reschedule it from 29 September to 30 September.
Karachi hosted the first two ODIs of the series and it is after 10 years that Sri Lanka played at in Pakistan. In 2009, Sri Lanka team bus was attacked when it was on the way to Lahore stadium for a match vs Pakistan. Six members of the Sri Lankan team wounded in the attack. After this Sri Lanka had cut their cricketing ties with Pak.
2nd ODI Stopped For A Bizzare Reason
The rain didn’t play spoilsport in the 2nd ODI still, the play face interruption multiple times due to floodlight failure. The incident happened during the chase. Sri Lanka was chasing 306 and Shehan Jayasuriya and Dasun Shanaka were building a solid partnership. One of the floodlights towers went off two times between 38th and 39th overs resulting play being stopped for 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, fans on social media claimed that the interruption distracted both the set batsmen resulting both got out in the next couple of overs. Shehan Jayasuriya fell 4 runs short of his century. The power failure in an international match triggered netizens and they took the twitter to post hilarious memes. Some criticised Pakistan board for the lack of preparation. Pakistan easily won the game after the fall of Jayasuriya and Shanaka. Both batsmen took Sri Lanka innings from 28/5 to 205/5. After both got out, Sri Lanka all-out on 238 runs and Pakistan won the match by 67 runs. Pakistan’s Usman Shinwari named as man of the match for picking 5 crucial wickets. Last ODI of Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series to play on 2nd October. The one-day series will follow a 3-T20 series starting 5 October.
