“Please give me one more chance” – Star Indian cricketer’s tweet goes viral

Getting to play for India is a dream for many cricketers who toil hard in the domestic circuit to get a chance in the international side. The domestic tournaments play an integral part in recognizing the talent for the big stage and one of the most important tournaments in India is Ranji Trophy. The 2020-21 edition was cancelled due to COVID and now uncertainty looms large in the 2021-22 season as well. Amidst this uncertainty, a star Indian cricketer’s tweet is going viral.

The third wave of COVID-19 has swept the nation and the country is on the verge of yet another lockdown. The number of rising cases has added to the concerns of BCCI who have postponed the 2021-22 season of the Ranji Trophy. After the postponement, Jaydev Unadkat expressed his feelings on Twitter where the bowler is indirectly requesting the selectors to give him a chance in the Test team.

Jaydev Unadkat is the captain of Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. He has been a good performer for his team and was the highest wicket-taker in the 2019-20 season of the Ranji Trophy. Post the 2019-20 season, the domestic tournament couldn’t take place because of the nation’s constant battle with the pandemic. The tournament was canceled last year and has been postponed yet again this year. Saddened by the delay, the Indian cricketer took to his Twitter handle and tweeted the emotional post.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has given a statement in a press release where he said that the board will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly. “The Ranji Trophy & Col CK Nayudu Trophy were scheduled to begin this month while the Senior Women’s T20 League was scheduled to commence in February,” said Jay Shah in a press release.

The players will definitely want the tournament to get underway as soon as possible as they can’t afford the tournament to get cancelled two years in a row. As for now, it looks highly unlikely for the tournament to begin because of the upsurge in the COVID cases across the country.
