Prima Donna Meaning

An official statement by CSK boss N Srinivasan clears the air of Suresh Raina’s exit from IPL 2020. CSK owner said that Raina acted like a ‘Prima Donna’ in Dubai Hotel which led to a rift between him and team management. Prima Donna meaning is a person who is extremely self-centred and whose mood changes very suddenly.

In the first communication put out by CSK, no reasons backed-up to say why Suresh Raina will not playing IPL. However, with reports of a dreaded attack on his relatives coming in, it became quite clear as to why Raina will not be playing IPL 2020. Nonetheless, the recent statements from N Srinivasan say that we have more to the story of why Suresh Raina is not playing IPL.

Why Suresh Raina is not playing IPL 2020?

As per a report in Outlook on Sunday, the southpaw was not content with the room where he stayed. Raina asked for a room with the balcony, much like the captain – MS Dhoni. The reason being Suresh Raina affirmed the bio-bubble rules to be claustrophobic.

While commenting on the situation, N Srinivasan said, “Cricketers are like prima donnas … like the temperamental actors of the olden days. Chennai Super Kings have always been like a family and all seniors players have learnt to co-exist.”

Srinivasan affirmed that the team is trying to put the incident on the back seat while focussing more on the event. And according to the CSK boss, Raina will want to come back before the season kicks-off.

“My thinking is that if you are reluctant or not happy, go back. I don’t force anyone to do anything … sometimes success gets into your head. The season has not begun yet and Raina will certainly realize what he is missing and certainly, all the money (a salary of 11 crores per season) he is going to lose, said Srinivasan.

MS Dhoni is in full control of the situation

As per the report, Srinivasan stated that Raina’s abrupt decision left the team in a state of shock. However, the captain – MS Dhoni – had the situation under control.

A total of 13 members of the CSK team including two players tested positive a few days back. The report cites it as one of the reasons for Raina’s abrupt decision.

Nonetheless, Dhoni assured Srinivasan that there is nothing to worry about and the situation is under control. “I spoke to MS (Dhoni) and he has assured me that even if the numbers go up, there was nothing to worry. He spoke to the players through a zoom call and asked them to remain safe. You really don’t know who is a passive carrier,” said CSK Indian Cements chief.
