Dindigul Dragons defeated Ba11sy Trichy by 6 wickets in the TNPL game on June 14 at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. In the Dindigul vs Trichy game, Ravichandran Ashwin reviewed a review as he countered the Third Umpire’s initial decision which had made the on-field umpire to overturn his decision.

Ravichandran Ashwin reviews the third umpire’s DRS decision in TNPL 2023 game

Dindigul Dragons’ skipper R Ashwin showed outrageous decision-making during the TNPL 2023 game against Ba11sy Trichy. During the 13th over of Trichy innings, the mighty off-spinner deceived Trichy batter Rajkumar with a wrong one and appealed for a caught behind and the on-field umpire ruled it in favor of the fielding side.

However, Rajkumar straightaway asked for a DRS review as he believed there was no edge involved. The third umpire overruled the on-field decision since replays suggested that the bat touched the pitch before passing the ball.

The third umpire was convinced that there was a clear spike on the UltraEdge prior to the ball hitting Rajkumar’s bat. Thus, the on-field umpire was asked to reverse his decision which shunned Ashwin and he decided to review the DRS verdict.

The third umpire went through the entire process for the second time and still ruled Rajkumar not out. The whole incident created some drama on the field as Ravichandran Ashwin was pretty sure of getting the wicket and the video eventually went viral on the social media platforms.

Earlier, the Dindigul Dragons side got a great start as they kept on taking wickets right from the word go. While opening batter Ganga Sridhar Raju kept holding one end, the Trichy side lost the wickets of Jafar Jamal, Akshay Srinivasan, Daryl Ferrario and Mani Bharathi in quick succession from the other end.

The Ba11sy Trichy side was bowled out for a mere 120 runs in 19.1 overs. Varun Chakaravarthy took 3 wickets for the Dindigul Dragons while R Ashwin and Saravana Kumar took a couple of wickets each and never allowed the opponent batters to score freely.

In response to Trichy’s total, Dindigul Dragons’ opening batter Shivam Singh provided them a good start and scored 46 runs off just 30 deliveries including 6 fours and 3 maximums. They got crucial contributions from keeper-batter Baba Indrajith and Adithya Ganesh as they eventually chased down the total in just 14.5 overs and defeated the Ba11sy Trichy side by 6 wickets in the TNPL 2023.
