The tour is set to begin from July 18 at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo and here are the ground's ODI records and pitch report as well.

The India tour of Srilanka after going through some amendments is now set to go underway. The latest news from the Srilankan squad is that Kusal Perara will miss out the India series due to a shoulder injury. The Srilankan Players have come out of isolation after the reports turned out to be negative. The tour is set to begin from July 18 at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo and here are the ground’s ODI records and also this article covers the R Premadasa Stadium Pitch Report as well.

The 2nd string Indian Squad which is quite young would be looking forward to the start of the series. The Indian team has a newly appointed pair of coach and captain – Rahul Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been appointed as the vice-captain.

R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo ODI Records :

When it comes to the ODI Records of the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, the ground is a low scoring venue. It can be seen from the records that the teams batting second generally suffer here. Besides the average scores of both the innings, the records say that the highest total ever chased here is 288. Hence, it’s clear that batting here in the 2nd half of the match is not an easy task.

Out of the total 131 matches played here, the teams batting first have won 71 matches whereas the teams batting 2nd have won 50.

ODI STATS :

Total matches 131
Matches won batting first  71
Matches won bowling first  50
Average 1st Inns scores  235

R Premadasa Stadium, Pitch Report :

The Pitch here in the R Premadasa Stadium is reported to not generate a lot of pace. Rather, the pitch slows down in the later half of the match which makes batting here even more difficult. It is not a flat track like the one in Galle.

Considering the past records, the low second innings scores and the less winning percentage of the team batting second here, the captain who wins the toss must put his team to bat here first.
