The hosts restricted the Indians to a low total of just 132 runs, courtesy, the brilliant performance of the Lankan bowlers. Rahul Chahar’s animated send-off to Hasaranga

It all happened in the 15th over of the match when Rahul Chahar got a bit gassed-up. Chahar was going wicket-less until he bowled the last bowl of his spell.  Wanidu Hasaranga hit the second last ball of the 15th over for a boundary straight down the ground and was looking good. But in the very next ball, Rahul Chahar bowled a delivery outside the off-stump, to which Hasaranga got out. Hasaranga, trying to slice the ball, went on to give an easy catch to Bhuveneshwar Kumar.

Rahul Chahar went on to celebrate the wicket with some charged-up expressions. Hasaranga in return was seen applauding Chahar for his brilliant delivery. Wanindu Hasaranga, in the 2nd T20, not only impressed everyone with his all-round skills but also with his calmness.

After Krunal Pandya’s testing positive to Covid-19 and the exclusion of a total of 9 players from the last 2 T20s, India had to play 4 new players in the 2nd T20. With 4 players debuting, the inexperienced Indian side got even weaker and unsettled. Devdutt Padikkal, Rituraj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana, and Chetan Sakaria were the 4 debutants whereas Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy were playing their 4th and 2nd T20I match respectively.

IND vs SL 1st T20I Summary

Batting first Team India could only manage 132 runs with captain Shikhar Dhawan being the top scorer. Dhawan played a knock of 49 runs in 42 balls. Devdutt Padikkal made 29 runs. With a weak batting lineup, Team India could not capitalize the good start, and neither the pitch had any help for the batsmen as it was on a slower side. The Srilankan Bowlers, with their tight bowling, made it even difficult for the Indian batters to survive. Akila Dananjaya took the maximum 2 wickets for Srilanka.

The wicketkeeper, Minod Bhanuka played a controlled knock of 36 runs for Srilanka. Wanindu Hasaranga was looking good as well and it seemed like he’d finish the match soon with his hitting ability but Rahul Chahar cleaned him up. Dhananjaya de Silva was the Srilankan Batsman who stood up while chasing the total. He scored a brilliant knock of 40 runs in just 35 balls when the going was getting tough. He was also named as the ‘Man of the Match’.
