Rajasthan Royals took on Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023 game on May 19 at the HPCA cricket stadium in Dharamshala. Star Sports mistakenly showed Yuzvendra Chahal’s name as RR captain after which the RR franchise came up with a hilarious tweet to pull the the leg of the broadcaster.

Rajasthan Royals’ hilarious tweet

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first in a must-win game at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. RR skipper Sanju Samson was asked about his decision by presenter and former Zimbabwe cricketer Mpumelelo Mbangwa.

According to the broadcasting rule, during a conversation, the names of people conversing generally appear on the screen. Hence, when Sanju Samson was having a word with Mpumelelo Mbangwa, his name should have been shown by the broadcasters. However, instead of Sanju Samson, it was written: “Yuzvendra Chahal, Rajasthan Royals captain”.

The mistake made by Star Sports went viral across the social media platforms and it sparked a memefest. Rajasthan Royals too shared an old tweet of theirs and brutally roasted Star Sports for the blunder. They captioned it: “@StarSportsIndia you’re not the first ones.”

Talking about the game, Rajasthan Royals got off to a great start after winning the toss and electing to field first. RR star pacer Trent Boult dismissed Prabhsimran Singh in the second ball of the innings. Navdeep Saini too struck twice to reduce Punjab Kings to 50 for 4 in the 7th over.

Punjab Kings then got to a competitive total of 187-5 in their 20 overs courtesy of brilliant knocks by Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan and Sam Curran. Jitesh smashed a brilliant 28-ball 44 while Shahrukh Khan stunned RR bowlers as he played a scintillating knock of 41 runs off just 23 deliveries including 4 boundaries and 2 monstrous sixes. Sam Curran too remained unbeaten for a well-made 31-ball 49.

In response to the PBKS total, Rajasthan Royals lost the early wicket of Jos Buttler who was dismissed for a duck. Young Devdutt Padikkal and Yashasvi Jaiswal then took control of the RR innings. Padikkal played a stellar knock of 51 runs off just 30 deliveries including 5 fours and 3 sixes.
