It’s a very well-established fact that dew plays a vital role in the limited overs games in the Indian subcontinent making the role of toss really crucial during the day-night games.

Now, Team India’s senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come up with a brilliant suggestion to counter dew in the 2023 ODI World Cup scheduled in October-November.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s suggestion to counter dew during the ODI World Cup

Cricket fans all around the globe are keenly waiting for the ODI World Cup which will be played this time in the months of October & November in India where dew will post a major issue. Dew can have a significant impact on the result of day-night games. So, to tackle the problem, Ashwin has come up with a solution.

Talking about the impact of dew on day-night games, Ashwin said on his YouTube channel,” So my suggestion is to have the World Cup matches.. More than a suggestion I would say it’s an opinion. In which venues we are playing and what time are we playing? Why don’t we start the World Cup games at 11:30 AM”

“Immediately people will say that television viewers and broadcasters and that people won’t latch on if it is telecasted at that time. People won’t latch on to World Cup games? If the match starts at 11:30 AM we won’t have the dew impact at all

Ashwin also gave an example of the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in which Sri Lankan batters did play well later in the innings even after having a terrible start purely because of the impact created by dew.

The BCCI is very well aware of the impact that dew creates on ODI games and that’s why they use chemical sprays to suppress the effect of dew. However, while the chemical sprays do reduce the impact of dew they cannot completely throw it out of the equation.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s suggestion is thus really crucial and if the organisers do consider starting the World Cup games at 11:30 AM, it can actually make the games equally poised and hence will reduce the impact of toss on the marquee event.
