Ravindra Jadeja becomes victim of death hoax after a former cricketer died

The similarity between late cricketer and Ravindra Jadeja's names led to confusion and rumours.

Some social media users fall prey to the fake news of the death of Ravindra Jadeja after a former Saurashtra cricketer succumbs to Covid-19. Rajendra Jadeja was a former cricketer who played first-class cricket during 1975-87. The 61-year old took his last breath on 16 May. The similarity of the late player’s name with current Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has led to death rumors of the 32-year old all-rounder.

Ravindra Jadeja death news is Fake

Many Youtube videos with misleading thumbnails and fake content were enough for some users to fall prey to the hoax. These videos got a ton of views and some of these videos are falsely claiming the demise of the Indian all-rounder. However, Ravindra Jadeja has not reacted to his death hoax yet. The all-rounder is currently spending time in his farmhouse. He frequently uploads videos of training and horse riding. Ravindra Jadeja is doing fine and also he was not tested corona positive.

Jadeja is part of the 20-man squad which will leave for England for a 3-month long tour on 2 June. Indian team is scheduled to play ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand from 18 June. Later, after a break of over one month, the same team has to go head to head against England in the 5-match test series.

Who was Rajendra Jadeja who died due to Covid-19?

Rajendra Jadeja was a pace bowler from Saurashtra who played 50 First-Class and 11 List-A matches on the domestic circuit. However, he didn’t get the fortune of playing for the national side. Rajendra worked as a match referee for BCCI after retirement from his cricketing career.

Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri who played office and zonal cricket with him was saddened to lose his former teammate. After the death of Rajendra Jadeja, Shastri took to Twitter to write, “Really sad to lose a colleague from Nirlons Mumbai and West Zone and a friend for many years, Raju Jadeja due to Covid complications. A gentleman to the core.”
