Cricketer-turned-commentator Murali Karthik is facing backlash from fans for his controversial remark on RCB pacer Yash Dayal. During the RCB vs PBKS match broadcast, Karthik remarked on Yash Dayal, saying, ‘Someone’s trash is someone’s treasure’. With this statement, he seemingly referred to Dayal as “trash” for his horrific season in 2023.

Fans are expressing their displeasure with Murali Karthik’s unprofessional remark on air. Some are demanding asking Karthik to apologize the RCB pacer while others are even advocating for his removal from the IPL 2024 commentary panel.

Yash Dayal had a decent performance in the game against Punjab Kings as he conceded just 23 runs in 4 overs and picked up 1 wicket. Following the win, Royal Challengers Bangalore responded to Murali Karthik’s remark by posting a photo of Yash Dayal on their official social media handles. The caption accompanying the photo read, ‘He’s treasure. Period’. The post was also shared by Yash Dayal on his Instagram handle.

In 2022, Uttar Pradesh-born pacer Yash Dayal was picked by new franchise Gujarat Titans for 3.2 crore rupees. That very season, the Titans clinched the title, with Dayal playing a good role by capturing 11 wickets in 9 games, earning him retention for his performance.

However, Yash Dayal faced a big setback in IPL 2023 as he was hit for 5 consecutive sixes by Rinku Singh and was criticized heavily. Following the game he was dropped from playing 11 and Gujarat Titans released him from the squad ahead of IPL 2024.

However, the Gujarat Titans understood that one bad performance couldn’t diminish Yash Dayal’s ability. GT management was the first to raise their paddle for Dayal in the IPL 2024 Auction. But Royal Challengers Bangalore also aimed to secure the talented pacer, sparking a bidding war during the auction. Ultimately, RCB made the final bid of 5 crore rupees and secured the services of the 26-year-old bowler.

Yash Dayal has had a decent 2024 season so far, contributing with two economical performances and picking up two wickets in two games. He forms part of RCB’s pace bowling lineup alongside Mohammed Siraj and Alzarri Joseph. Siraj has also secured two wickets in the first two games, while Alzarri Joseph has struggled with expensive spells in both outings. It will be interesting to see whether the Challengers make any changes to the trio for the upcoming game.
