Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has faced slam after his controversial remark during commentating. During Rajasthan Royals’ match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday (May 20), Gavaskar made a ‘distasteful’ comment on the experienced Shimron Hetmyer which didn’t go down well with the fans.

However, Hetmyer had left the Rajasthan Royals bio-bubble a few days ago to attend the birth of his first child and he returned in the game against CSK. The southpaw came to bat at number six when the team needed 47 off 31 balls as well. Sunil Gavaskar at that time tried to be cheeky and ended up making a controversial remark that netizens didn’t like.

“Hetmyer’s wife delivered; will Hetmyer deliver for the Royals now?” Gavaskar was heard saying during his commentary. And, soon after fans on social media slammed him for making such a statement. Notably, Shimron Hetmyer couldn’t make do well on his comeback. Although he did hit a fine boundary down the ground, the swashbuckling batter fell prey to the leg-spinner Prashant Solanki while trying to hit big. But, his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin played a stunning knock to take his side home as well.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin won the Player of the Match. And, after the game, he said: “Feels like a million dollars. It was important that we won the game tonight. That’s quite a good finish to the group stage games. The communication was pretty clear before the tournament. I had to work on a lot of stuff. The team management was clear with my position. I know what my role is. I have to make the batsmen take risks. I have always believed I understand the game well. I am quite innovative, they have understood me well. I want to play my A-game. I am glad to make it to the playoffs and super pleased. I just brought out the David Warner inside me.”
