Team India skipper Virat Kohli had announced last month, during the IPL, that he will be giving up the T20 captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2021. Now, as the T20 World Cup is mid-way, the Team India selection committee is set to announce the new T20 Captain of the Indian team, within the next few days. According to Cricbuzz, the squad for India vs New Zealand series as well will be announced within this week.

New Zealand Tour of India 2021

The New Zealand side will be touring India right after the T20 World Cup ends. The final of the ongoing mega T20 event is scheduled on November 14 and India vs New Zealand T20 series starts on November 17. The tour consists of a 3-match T20I series and a 2-match test series.

Sources suggest that the national selection committee of the Indian team will be announcing the squad on the 5th of November. According to Cricbuzz, the senior players might be rested for the T20 series. Meanwhile, KL Rahul will most likely captain the India side for the T20 series against New Zealand.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the crowds will return to the stadiums in India during the New Zealand tour. A BCCI official has conveyed this to ANI.

Rohit Sharma to take over the India’s T20 Captaincy

Rohit Sharma is currently the vice-captain of the Indian side and it was clear, once Virat Kohli announced his decision of stepping down from the captaincy, that Sharma would be taking up the role. Sharma has a great T20 Captaincy record behind him. With 5 IPL titles as captain, he is arguably the best when it comes to leading a team in the shortest format of the game.
Not just the IPL, Rohit Sharma has great stats when it comes to the T20I captaincy as well. He has captained the Indian T20 side 19 times, out of which he has led the team to victory 15 times.
