The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League saw the rise of the most consistent team of the tournament after a dismal season last year. Chennai Super Kings came out triumphant after their spectacular performance in the 2021 season of the cash-rich league. The focus has now shifted to the upcoming season, for which a mega-auction is going to be organized. If reports are to be believed, CSK to release Suresh Raina and retain MS Dhoni.

The preparations for the next season of IPL are already underway with the BCCI working on the inclusion of the two new teams. In addition to that, a mega-auction is also going to be held where all the players barring a few will go under the hammer.

It is going to be a big headache for the teams who have got their combination right. The teams are allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players and reports say that CSK to release Suresh Raina ahead of the 2022 season.

‘CSK to release Suresh Raina’, tells Cricbuzz reports

The 2021 season was very poor for Raina as he just couldn’t get going in any of the matches he played. He was ultimately dropped from the side owing to his back-to-back failures. Cricbuzz Reports suggest that MS Dhoni will be the first-choice retention for the team along with Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad, while the overseas pick could be Dwayne Bravo or Faf du Plessis. The report further suggests that the franchise is going to release Suresh Raina for the upcoming Mega Auction.

For the uninitiated, a team can not retain more than three Indian players and two foreign players. A total of four players can be retained by a franchise. It will be interesting to see which players are retained and whether CSK to release Suresh Raina or not. However, if we go by the current form, Raina may have played the last game for the Yellow Army.
