Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers is likely to join the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but in a new role as the franchise may appoint the legend as its mentor for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. AB ended his IPL career that included a 11-year stint with the RCB in November last year.
With de Villiers no longer available as a player, RCB is interested in adding him to their coaching setup. The announcement of the same could be made on March 12.

RCB could well be naming their new skipper on the same date as they have many probable candidates in line to take up the captaincy position. While Faf du Plessis is the frontrunner in the race, Glenn Maxwell is another choice and can be their captain for IPL 2022. If their think tank is looking at a domestic option, Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik fit the bill.
The Bangalore-based franchise is without a skipper as Virat Kohli relinquished the position after the previous edition of the cash-rich league, citing excess workload. However, since Virat is not the captain of the national side anymore, he can change his decision and continue to lead the team.
