Team India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make a comeback into international cricket in the T20 series against Ireland in August. Bumrah is recovering from a back injury and has been out of action since September last year and is a crucial prospect for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
The star pacer could not feature in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia as well which was played in the months of October-November last year. Team India badly missed his services in the marquee tournament as they lost against England in the semi-final by 10 wickets as none of their bowlers could leave any impact in that game.
Jasprit Bumrah expected to return for Ireland Series as per reports
“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take field,” a BCCI official told News18.
“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth have been working very closely with Bumrah and keeping him on track during the rehab period at the NCA. Both are very experienced and don’t want to take any chance with Bumrah in what is a very crucial white-ball year and also the start of the new World Test Championship cycle,” added the official.
Jasprit Bumrah has remained under the watchful eyes of NCA head VVS Laxman, Nitin Patel, who is the Head Sports Science and Medicine department. The team also includes S Rajnikanth, who has helped batter Shreyas Iyer and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya recover from their respective injuries.
It’s worth noting that Team India is currently missing the services of some key players due to injury issues. Rishabh Pant is yet to recover from the injuries he sustained during a car accident in December last year. Shreyas Iyer has undergone back surgery while KL Rahul has undergone thigh surgery and both players are still recovering.
The absence of key players proved to be costly for the Indian Team in the WTC 2023 final in which they lost against Australia by 209 runs. Team India’s bowling lineup looked pretty one-dimensional without Jasprit Bumrah and the management will expect him to get back to his full fitness and rhythm before the 2023 ODI World Cup which is scheduled in the months of October-November later this year.
