The 15th season of the Indian Premier League to kick off on March 27 in Mumbai.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) set for its 15th season, the dilemma surrounding its venue seems to have ended. As reported by Cricbuzz, three possible venues- India (Mumbai and Pune), UAE and South Africa were explored by the BCCI.

In a meeting held today, the owners of the franchises discussed the possible options to conduct the cash-rich league safely this time around with the BCCI. As the board is eager to host the entire tournament in Mumbai and Pune, four grounds within the cities are being considered as the possible venues.

The BCCI also conveyed the starting date of the 15th season to the teams with the opening encounter, reportedly, scheduled on March 27 in Mumbai.

UAE or South Africa to host IPL 2022 incase covid situation deteriorates in India

The discussion centred around the venue with UAE and South Africa also emerging as options apart from Mumbai and Pune. While UAE has been IPL’s favourite place since the last two years, the BCCI rejected it as a venue for the upcoming edition on the basis of dew in the months of April and May.

South Africa was also explored as a possible venue but was rejected on the grounds of air travel. With Mumbai and Pune having sufficient stadiums and hotels to host the league, the BCCI finally settled upon them. However, the final decision will be made in a meeting, scheduled on 20th February.

“IPL 2022 will be held in India without a crowd. Likely venues are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai & Pune if needed,” top BCCI sources were quoted as saying by ANI.
