Reports: PCB Chief Ramiz Raja to propose BCCI for cricketing ties after successfully hosting Australia

India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series against each other since 2012 due to political conflict.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja is likely to endorse the prospect of India and Pakistan resuming cricketing ties at the ICC’s upcoming meet. As per popular speculation, Ramiz is hopeful of convincing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to resume India-Pakistan bilateral matches on a more frequent basis.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will convene for a meet from 7 to 10 April in Dubai with board representatives from across the cricket world. Ramiz, according to reports, is likely to propose a four-nation T20 series involving India, Pakistan, England, and Australia.

This development has been in discussions for a while now, and should the respective boards be in agreement, the tournament could be a major source of revenue for all the countries involved. With 4 of the top cricket countries participating, there is likely to be a major boom in global viewership, which will be a major incentive for all the cricket boards.

But now, it also seems that Ramiz and the PCB are eager to resume direct bilateral cricket matches with their Indian neighbors. Owing to political and military tensions, India and Pakistan haven’t faced each other in independent bilateral series since 2013. The two teams play have played each other only in ICC events since; the most recent of which dates back to the WT20 game in October 2021 that Pakistan won by 10 wickets.

Ramiz to give ICC briefing on Australia’s visit to the country

According to reports from Pakistani media, Ramiz will be addressing the ICC on the success of Australia’s recently-concluded tour to the country. Having been deprived of cricket on their home-soil since nearly a decade, Pakistan have been able to organize a few fleeting international assignments here and there.

But the successful completion of a series involving the high profile Australian team- that too after the cancellation of New Zealand and England’s tours previously- bodes well for the country. In fact, Ramiz and the PCB are likely to use the success of the Australia tour as a bargaining chip to propose the commencement of more international cricket events in Pakistan.
