Mumbai Indians will kickstart their IPL 2023 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As per some reports, skipper Rohit Sharma might skip a few games for MI this season as part of his workload management while Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side.

Team India has a packed international schedule this year as they will participate in multiple mega-events. The Men in Blue will face Australia in the World Test Championship final at The Oval in London from 7 to 11 June. They will also contest in the 2023 Asia Cup scheduled in the month of September.

Meanwhile the most important tournament for the Indian Team this year is the ODI World Cup. The 2023 ODI World Cup will be played in India in the months of October-November and the team management will look to keep all their players fully fit for the marquee tournament.

Rohit Sharma is set to miss a few IPL games as part of his workload management

According to a report filed by the Indian Express, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma has decided to skip a few IPL matches this season, though he will continue to travel with the team. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the MI side in Rohit’s absence. Rohit Sharma himself will pick and choose the matches he wants to skip.

Earlier, the Indian skipper was asked about his thoughts on workload management during IPL considering it’s a World Cup year. Rohit Sharma reckoned that it is up to the players to keep themselves fit for international matches.

“It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchises. And more importantly, it’s up to the players,” Rohit had told reporters.

“They are all adults; they have to look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. But I doubt if that will happen,” Rohit had discussed.

Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah are certain to miss International cricket for the next few months. Shreyas Iyer too has suffered a back injury and there’s no clarity about his availability as well. In such a scenario, the Indian Team management would be really keen to monitor the fitness of all the other crucial players considering the 2023 ODI World Cup.
