In a latest development, it has been revealed that Virat Kohli has informed the BCCI about his decision of opting out of the ODI series against South Africa. Virat was recently sacked as the ODI captain of India and with the uncertainty regarding Rohit Sharma’s availability in the limited-overs series, India may have to step onto the field in the absence of their two-star batsmen.

Virat Kohli to take a leave during ODI series, reports

If the latest reports are to be believed, Virat is planning a holiday with his family as January is his daughter’s birthday month. Vamika will turn a year old and the Indian Test captain wants to be with his loved ones on this special occasion.

ANI verified the news and it was found that Virat has requested to be given a break next year in January. “Yes, Kohli has asked for a small break in January to spend some time with his family. It effectively means that he would miss the ODI series against South Africa,” a source said to ANI.

The news comes after a day Rohit got ruled of the red-ball series. With Virat reportedly not available in the ODIs, India will now have to do something special to beat South Africa in their home conditions.

Earlier this year, Virat took a break from cricket and missed three Test matches against Australia to stay with his wife for the birth of their first child. India won that historic series 2-1.

India’s tour of South Africa will start with the Test series, beginning with the Boxing Day Test from 26th December. It will be followed by a three-match ODI series, starting on January 19.
