The Ashes rivalry between Australia and England is perhaps the biggest rivalry when it comes to Test cricket. The fans love the intensity and excitement that Ashes brings with it. The series is always full of nail-biting contests which thrill the viewers. 08th December 2021 will witness the renewal of this rivalry as Australia and England take on each other in the opening Test of the Ashes series. The former Australian captain Ricky Ponting predicts the result of the series ahead of the first Test.

Team Australia is the current holder of the Ashes, having been the incumbent holders after the 2019 Ashes series ended in a draw. Prior to that, the Australian team displayed a great show in the 2017-18 Ashes as they won 4 out of 5 matches to win the Ashes with flying colours. In the build-up to the 2021-22 season of the Ashes, Ricky Ponting predicts that Australia will be triumphant once again and further consolidate its domination.

Talking to cricket.com.au Ponting said, “I think Australia will win, because England is going to struggle to take 20 wickets, with the kind of bowlers [they have]. They do not have a real quality spinner in their lineup for these conditions.” Ricky Ponting predicts that the England team will struggle because of their bowling lineup which will make things a tad easier for the Aussie batsmen.

Ricky Ponting predicts that the Australian team will defeat the English team 3-1. The former Australian captain backed England to win the Adelaide Test while supporting the Aussies for the rest of the matches. The first Test is going to take place in Gabba where team India breached the Aussies’ fortress to win the famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Australian team would like to forget the summer and focus completely on the opening Test of the Ashes series.

Whatever the result, the fans are surely going to enjoy the intense and fun-filled rivalry between the top two teams in the longest format of cricket. The teams will play 5-Test matches as is the format and the series will come to an end on 18th Jan 2022.
