Ricky Ponting predicts the winner for India vs Pakistan 2022 Asia Cup match

The Australian Cricket pundit has had his say on the most awaited cricket match of the year.

The only captain in the history of cricket to win three consecutive World Cups, Ricky Ponting has shared his verdict on the outcome of the 2022 Asia Cup game between India and Pakistan.

The league stage of the tournament starts on August 27 and the much-hyped India versus Pakistan match is going to be held on 28th of August, 2022.

Ricky Ponting shares his verdict for IND-PAK Asia Cup 2022 game

Speaking to the ICC about the India vs Pakistan clash, Ponting said, “As a cricket lover like I am, and a cricket observer, any time those sorts of battles come up it’s almost always nice to sit back and watch because everything just goes up a notch, doesn’t it?”

Last time the two sides met for the high-octane clash was back in the T20 World Cup 2021, where Pakistan outshone Team India in all three departments to bag a 10-wicket win over Kohli and company.

Notwithstanding the degree of one-sidedness of the last affair, Ricky Ponting has backed Team India to come good against Pakistan in their 2022 Asia Cup face-off.

“I’ll stick with India to win that clash against Pakistan. That is taking nothing away from Pakistan because they are an incredible cricket nation that continues to present out-and-out superstar players.”

IND-PAK games were a thing of regularity and the neighbours played against each other fairly often.

However, ever since the border issues between the two nations have picked heat, India and Pakistan have stopped playing bilateral series. They’re now only seen in action against each other in multi-team tournaments like T20 and ODI World Cups, Champions Trophy, and Asia Cup.

The cricket world has been deprived of such classy clashes as a result, and Ricky Ponting commented on the same.

“To be totally honest, it is one (India vs Pakistan) that we have been starved of, haven’t we, looking back the last 15 or 20 years?”
