Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is quite active on social media portals and every now and then, he makes the headlines for controversial reasons, because of his tweets that convey indirect or even direct meanings. On top of that, he is known for his outspoken nature as he never shies away from making bold comments on former or current cricketers.

Meanwhile, during an interaction with Sportskeeda, “This or That” episode, the former Indian opener was asked to pick between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. It is cognizance of the fact that Ronaldo and Messi literally dominated the football world for several years now. However, the debate over who is the best footballer between the duo is subjective and it depends on personal preferences.

There is absolutely no doubt that Ronaldo and Messi have had extraordinary ventures and have consistently performed at a high level for more than a decade. Moreover, their playing approach and strengths differ, thus making it challenging to declare the better player between the two.

Gautam Gambhir snubs both Ronaldo and Messi

When everyone expected Gambhir to pick either Ronaldo or Messi as the best player, he took us all by surprise with an unexpected answer. The KKR mentor snubbed the legends and instead picked Marcus Rashford as his favourite player. It seems Gambhir is not a big fan of Messi and Ronaldo. Soon after his response, several netizens chipped in with their views and opinions on social media.

One of the social media users wrote, “Didn’t say Ronaldo because Kohli liked him, Didn’t say Messi because Dhoni liked him.” Gautam Gambhir served as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise in the sixteenth edition of the IPL and he made up his mind to shift his base to Kolkata Knight Riders wherein he will be serving as the mentor for the upcoming season.

Gautam Gambhir was one of the integral parts of the KKR’s history and it was under his captaincy, KKR won two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. KKR lifted the first title by beating CSK in the final showdown before defeating Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) to win the second title.
