Millions of fans got upset after the Mumbai Indians’ think-tank replaced Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain for the next season of the Indian Premier League. It was a decision that nobody saw coming in the first place and the MI management strongly reckons that Hardik Pandya will carry forward Rohit Sharma’s legacy. Mumbai Indians’ Global Head of Cricket, Mahela Jayawardene also stressed the fact that the decision was taken for the betterment of the franchise’s future.

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Mumbai Indians scaled great heights, winning as many as five trophies, the joint-most alongside Chennai Super Kings. This time around, Rohit Sharma will play as a pure batsman under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. It remains to be seen how Rohit Sharma will dominate the proceedings as a batter going forward in the fresh season.

Rohit Sharma will enter in the 2025 IPL auction: Rumours

Meanwhile, if the rumours doing the rounds are to be believed, Rohit Sharma will part ways with the Mumbai Indians franchise following the IPL 2024 season, which will mean that the senior pro will enter the IPL 2025 auction. If that’s the scenario, then the teams would be fighting a long and intense battle in the auction in an attempt to secure his services as he can tick the boxes as a captain, batsman and fielder.

He possesses a wealth of experience as a captain in this league and besides that, he is one of the four batters who has completed 6,000 runs in the IPL. He scored 6211 runs at an average of close to 30. Overall, he hammered 1 century and 42 fifties and maintained a strike rate of 130.04. The experienced campaigner will be a hot prospect, in case, he enters the auction.

In the previous season, Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs by finishing fourth on the points table, accumulating 16 points. They knocked the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator clash by beating them by 81 runs. However, their tables turned when they locked horns with Gujarat Titans as they lost by 62 runs in the second qualifier. Eventually, Mumbai Indians’ arch-rivals, Chennai Super Kings got the better of Gujarat Titans in the last ball thriller and clinched the fifth title.
