S Sreesanth turns leg spinner to take a wicket in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

It was an emotional moment for S Sreesanth when he made his comeback in competitive cricket in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Sreesanth thanked each one of his supporters in a tweet as he played his first game in seven long years. The former India bowler was selected in the Kerala squad in December 2020 after the suspension of his ban in September.

Sreesanth’s cricketing career turned upside down when he was accused of being involved in a spot-fixing scandal along with two other Rajasthan Royals teammates in the 2013 edition of IPL. All the players were banned for lifetime however, Sreesanth’s ban was reduced to seven years. The bowler made headlines once again as he was seen sledging young Jaiswal in the match against Mumbai.

After being called out for sledging, the Kerala bowler posted a heartfelt message which won the hearts of many. Sreesanth is in news again after he turned a leg spinner in the match against Andhra and on top of it, he even got a wicket. Everyone including the batsman Ashwin Hebbar was shocked to see Sreesanth bowling leg spin and eventually getting the wicket.

Defending a paltry target of 113, S Sreesanth decided to turn a leg spinner. Andhra batsman Hebbar couldn’t believe his eyes as he hit the fifth ball of the over straight to deep mid-wicket, getting out to spinner Sreesanth. Sreesanth ended the match with the decent figures of 1/25, however, it was not enough for his team to win the match.

Team Kerala lost their first match in the tournament after winning three matches on the trot. Their batsmen have been performing exceptionally well and they have been able to chase down big targets. Especially, Mohammed Azharuddeen who smashed a 37-ball century against Mumbai became the talk of the town. Their next and last group match will be against Haryana on 19^th January.
