Over the last 7-8 years, technology has evolved like crazy in India. There are over 600 million smartphone users in India, which is above 40% of the nation’s population. However, while technology is a boon for today’s generation, it can also become a bane. Many people are using technology for the wrong reasons. Sachin Tendulkar also found himself becoming a victim as his deepfake video went viral on the internet.
Fake video of Sachin Tendulkar and his daughter goes viral
Sachin Tendulkar was left disturbed when he came across a video in which he can be seen advertising a cash-earning app. In the video, Sachin is giving an example of his daughter Sara, ‘My daughter earns 1.8 lakh per day with this app.’ The video is fake and has been created using AI technology. The video is using Sachin’s name to garner a large number of downloads.
The legendary Indian cricketer made everyone aware of the manipulated video by sharing a statement on his official social media accounts. “These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes,” Sachin wrote on his X handle alongside the fake video.

Sachin Tendulkar is not the first celebrity to fall victim to deepfake video. Recently, actresses such as Rashmika Mandanna and Alia Bhatt have also had to deal with their deepfake videos which circulated widely on the internet. With the rise in incidents, technological defenses are making laws progressively more stringent.

These videos can be very realistic and can be hard to distinguish if they’re fake. As a result, many people fall prey to deception. With the increase in technology, it has become easier to create such videos. So, if anyone comes across such a video on social media, they need to research it before reaching a conclusion.
